Corruption!

Corruption is defined as "dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power , typically involving bribery" by The Oxford Dictionary (http://oxforddictionaries.com/view/entry/m_en_gb0181740#m_en_gb0181740)
Well my father has kept me thinking over the issue after he wrote his blog: Vartalap. I promised him I will come up with a rejoinder/reply & here I am.
Ever since I have grown up and the most of my generation have, we have seen the corruption in the country Evolving. Yes, Corruption like any other phenomenon has also evolved in our country. After 1991, our country started taking steps towards Globalization & our leaders also started "Globalizing" in their techniques. I will explain you how. Earlier, the scams involved in corruption in buying of Arms, Ammunitions, Government purchases of Wheats & Grains, Corruption for licenses etc. Those are still there but there are new forms cropping up as well. The later scams involved Stock Market, 2G spectrum sale, Adarsh & similar building scam, Satyam Scam, CWG scam etc. To sum up we are moving from Political Corruption to Corporate Corruption. I will leave this forum open to the public to decide which one is MORE dangerous. But let us assume they both are harmful to the "Public Health" in one way or another.
I am working for a PSU organization and I witness corruption at many levels. However, its not just the misuse of the power its also the negligence in the duty which leads to corruption. The answer is very simple. Our policies are made in the way that induces corruption. (Just a point of caution: I do not endorse to the view that policies in other countries are better; the scams & corruptions are apparent there as well but the effect to a "common man" is lesser)
Let me give you an example: Many of you might have heard of Oil company officials are corrupt. Why is that? The reason lies in the complex web of rules made by the ministry because of one word: SUBSIDY. Why would a Petrol Pump owner try & divert Kerosene in to Diesel if he doesn't get about 30 Rs per liter difference?
The examples are plenty. What a few years ago was sung as a success story is now a point of contempt for many. I am talking about Indian Telecom Revolution.
So what encourages corruption? Is the complexity of rules? Is it the greed? Is it the lack of discipline? Or is it the lack of governance?
My answer is the sum total of all of it. Why do we give bribe to the Traffic policemen for not wearing a seatbelt or helmet? Do you even know how many clearances one has to sought before starting a venture?

So what as a common man one has to do to stop the evil? Well, first of all I would say, start acting as a common man. In this country, we strive to be someone's someone! We just love to pull some strings to get our work done. We love to talk on the phone while driving!

Be the change you want to see! Lokpal, RTI may come & go, don't give those people chance to rule us. If we do what is right, in our own interest, the world will be a beautiful place to live.

Disclaimer: I do know above views are hypothetical & perhaps dreamy, but we are fighting a huge evil.

Sorry for commenting very late, I was busy with some stupid work (either work or I!!!!!)

Coming to your view on dilemma, let’s take two cases;
Case-1: Anilbhai gave Rs.2,000 Crore to Rajaanna, just because he don’t want to pay Rs.5,000 Crore to the exchequer. Anilbhai is better off and saved Rs.3,000 Crore. Rajaanna is also better off, he thinks that Rs.2000 Crore belongs to no one and he deserved it.
Case-2: Saureen (u can call a CM (Common Man)!!!!!) gave Rs.20 to Traffic Policeman, just because he don’t want to pay Rs.50 to the exchequer. Saureen is better off and saved Rs.30. Traffic Policeman is also better off, he thinks that Rs.20 belongs to no one and he deserved it.

Though my English is very poor, I assured you the gist of both the cases can be included under the definition of one word, ‘Corruption’. Also in both the case both the parties involved are in Win-Win situation but the biggest loser is…. no one knows…. or no one tried to quantify….

Let’s analyze the cases….

We, Indians always blame the one who is on the receiving end in corruption, because of gains that we know. We generally believe that the one and only system which is corrupt is Government system, which includes Political, Legal & Administrative. The thing which is not come in to limelight is who force the system to be corrupt. Either its Private or Corporate and ‘Individuals’ also…… If someone blames ‘Rajaanna’ for taking bribe, equal (I’m of the opinion of ‘more’) blame has to be attributed to ‘Anilbhai’…. Same way a CM (u know who!!!!) who always think that he is not at all part of corrupt system and what he has done is just a ‘routine’!!!!

The small ‘routine’ by CM which started at the roadside, one day became small ‘routine’ by FM/ TM & may be PM at North & South Block in Delhi. No matter who has done it, till it remains buried, remains ‘small routine’. And when it comes out, as told by Hamish McDonald: “no conspiracy is accepted at face value.” it became ‘biggest’. The term ‘biggest’, generally coined by the one who is not at the receiving side (either the one who has given or the one who didn’t get anything…!!!)

So never act as a CM, act genuinely in this world…………

Coming to the receiving end in corruption chain, don’t think that I’m defending them.

System gave power to individual to act reasonably to enhance the living level of people. As well said by Lord John Acton: ‘Power tends to Corrupt, absolute power corrupt absolutely…’. Absolute power tends them to enhance only their individual level of living, and they are very much successful!!!!

If the individual made answerable and system limits their power, by interference of other power, this world become a better place. If ‘KING’(…is King!!!) has really asked ‘Rajaanna’ to work properly, ‘Anilbhai’s’ more money infused in system to better off many individuals…. But ‘KING’ and ‘Rajaanna’ works together for same cause, god is the only option to believe…..

Yes its only god, not any ‘Anna’…. After all ‘Anna’ is part of ‘Rajaanna’ (if in Ramu’s Sarkar Raj, Sarkar imitate image of Balasaheb Thakrey, Rao Sab’s image imitate ‘Anna’… I firmly believe this….)

Yes ur right, Be the change you want to see…. also act as, you want others to….
